Telecom operators in the country added a record 16.67 million new mobile subscribers in October, the highest ever, driven mainly by the newly introduced per second billing plan.
According to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India added 16.67 million wireless subscribers--GSM, CDMA and FWP combined--taking the total wireless subscriber base to 488.4 million at the end of October.
Tata Teleservices was the top grosser of subscribers with 3.87 million new users, followed by Vodafone at 2.98

Late-noon short selling boosted markets to stage a spectacular recovery on the last trading day this week.
The Sensex gained 173 points from last week's close to end with a gain of 1% at 17,022.
The Nifty surged 1% to 5,052, helped by banking and oil stocks.

The Nifty strengthened in the second half of trade and recovered all of yesterday's losses post government's comments on P-notes and source based news on banks' consolidation.
It closed above the 5,050 level while the Sensex ended above the psychological 17,000 mark.
The benchmark indices witnessed consolidation in the first half of trade.

The Sensex of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today ended at 17,021.85 with a smart recovery of 236.20 points, as against its overnight finish at 16,785.65 points.
The 30-scrip index registered the day's high and low at 17,041.79 and 16,635.75 points, respectively.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) also bounced back by 63.45 points to finish at 5,052.45 points, compared to its previous day's close at 4,989.00 points.

The index touched a high of 17040.71 and low of 16635.75.
National Stock Exchange's Nifty closed at 5059.55, up 70.55 points or 1.41 per cent.
The broader index hit a high of 5063.30 and low of 4932.80.
